[About the Great Lives biography series.]

Florence Sabin was born in the mining town of Central City in 1871 . She died in Denver in 1953. Between the beginning and the end, she was the first woman to hold a full professorship at Johns Hopkins University Medical School, the first female researcher to receive full membership as a researcher at the Rockefeller Institute, the author of a widely used textbook on brain anatomy, and the author and promoter of the Sabin Health Laws in Colorado. Her vision of better health for Coloradans changed public health in the state. Her statue is one of two that represent Colorado in Statuary Hall in the nationís capitol.
