[About the Great Lives biography series.]

Rodolfo ‘Corky’ Gonzales was born in Denver in 1928 and died in Denver in 2005. His life’s mission was to improve the lives of Chicanos and to instill a sense of pride in Chicano heritage. As a political activist, he founded the Crusade for Justice, an organization that worked for social justice. The school he founded, Escuela Tlatelolco continues today is a Denver Public School. Corky’s epic poem, “I Am Joaquin”, is taught in many university literature courses.
