          Great Lives in Colorado History

        Pesonajes Importantes de la historia
                          de Colorado

Great Lives in Colorado History brings the stories of Colorado heroes to elementary learners. The series was launched in 2011 with publication of thirteen biographies. In 2013, the lives of twenty more notable Coloradans were added.

The biographical series is a project of the Denver Public Schools, Colorado Humanities, and Filter Press. A portion of the purchase price of each book is returned to Denver Public Schools and Colorado Humanities.
  • Books are designed for use in third and fourth grade classrooms.
  • Each book contains the full text in both English and Spanish.
  • Glossary, Timeline, Index, and Bibliography are included.
  • Each biography has "Questions to Think About" for the student.
  • Each is illustrated with period photographs.
  • Books in the series are written by educators in Denver Public Schools.
  • Each title is reasonably priced at $8.95, and discounts are available for purchase of sets of all titles or classroom sets of any one title.
The design of each book features two "front" covers - one English, one Spanish. To read in either language, a reader flips the book over and upside down.

The two versions of the cover for entrepreneur and philanthropist Charles Boettcher: Colorado Businessman (or Charles Boettcher: Empresario de Colorado) are shown here.
