Prunes and Rupe is a tale of friendship and flapjacks! |
In Prunes and Rupe Lydia Griffin tells the heartwarming story of a prospector, his burro, and the small mountain town where they live. Based on the true story of prospector Rupert M. Sherwood and his prune-colored burro, the book tells how people in the mining town of Fairplay looked after the burro when Rupe - and Prunes too - grew too old for mining in the high country.
The thirty-two page children's book is beautifully illustrated by Judith Hunt. See more art from the book below.

They had lived quite the life searching for gold. Up to the mines Prunes traipsed with Rupe, sometimes leading, sometimes following, but always carrying a gold pan, shovel, fry pan, coffeepot, ax, pick, rope, blankets, flour for flapjacks, bacon, sugar, and, of course, oats. Rupe swore Prunes had as good a nose for gold as he did. | |
